So far this half term we have used some excellent online links to create our own avatars. We tried to make it look as much like us as possible. We also used a graffiti creator to create our nicknames and experimented with all of the different techniques we could use on the online tool. We have had great fun so far and are looking forward to putting Spring 1’s photos into effect when we use Animoto next week!
Today we celebrated ‘SID 2019”s ‘Together for a better internet’ with a whole host of activities relating to consent and staying safe online:
We read a fairytale with a twist ‘Goldilocks – #a hashtag cautionary tale’ and discussed the implications of Goldilocks’ careless attitude towards e-safety. We then hot seated Goldilocks and gave her some top tips for staying safe online.Top tips for Goldilocks
We looked at the ‘Rights of the child’ and how they relate to staying safe online. We sorted our cards into a diamond 9 shape depending on our priorities.
We pretended to describe consent to an alien and played a game about proximity and how our facial expressions and actions show our feelings about consent as well as the words that we use.
We predicted who the biggest internet users of the world are and then represented our data in a variety of different ways.
We created a wordle for e-safety.
We had so much fun and, best of all, we now know exactly what we need to do to stay safe online and how important it is to both ask for, and give, consent.
For the Spring term we wanted to get our teeth stuck into a juicy project so we have been researching information about our lovely school. We used PowerPoint to answer the questions we had and we will then be using I-pads to create a portfolio of images which we want to use to showcase our school. We will create animation videos of the final presentations which will combine both our images and the text. Watch this space..!
For our final club of this half term, we really got into the festive spirit and created Christmas cards online. First of all we posed in front of a Christmas backdrop complete with a real fire and stockings (it was just a picture on Mrs H’s whiteboard – shhhh! Don’t spoil the secret!) and then we uploaded our image onto Publisher using a card template. We then personalised them for our family using our chosen wording. We hope they will be well received on Christmas Day!
As Computing Club was over-subscribed, Autumn 2 has brought with it a whole new host of students raring to go for the second instalment! We hope you enjoy ‘meeting’ them through their online introductions!
We loved using Excel to create pictures last week. We filled in cell blocks to make them look like parts of a picture. It felt really technical and we had some great results. We have also enjoyed exploring the Storybird and Soundation apps. We gave Mrs H really positive feedback on both of these and said we would definitely like them included in our lessons, so watch this space!
As part of one of our after-school Computing club sessions, I asked the pupils some thought-provoking questions to find out more about them and why they had joined our club. I hope you enjoy reading their responses!
